Another picture from my trip to New Orleans in 2019. I am still amazed by the pictures my iPhone allows me to capture.
Race in America
I used to believe that color blindness was the attitude to take when it came to discussing race, but one day I was listening to Sam Sanders’ podcast, It’s Been a Minute. He was discussing race and the idea of color blindness with his guest, and he said something to the effect of: “If you don’t see color, you don’t see me.” It was a moment of epiphany for me, and I realized that my approach had been wrong. This page is a collection of articles, podcasts, documentaries, and books that have helped me reframe my understanding of the role race has played in shaping America.
My hope is that you are able to find something useful here, too.

One of my most favorite podcasts of all time is Dolly Parton’s America, but you won’t find that here. These are a few easy-to-listen to podcasts that might give you a better understanding of how race has impacted our places in America.

Many of these documentaries are accessed through subscription services, but I have tried to include links to open access when possible.

While some of these books are listed on my recommendation pages, this list is meant to be a quicker look at books specifically concerning the idea of race in America.
